Surrender a Pet

Home / Surrender a Pet

When Letting Go is the Kindest Thing.

We understand that life can change. If you can no longer care for your pet and are a Sumner County resident, we’re here to provide support, not judgment. We kindly request that all surrenders be scheduled in advance to ensure that space and resources are available.

Sumner County Animal Services Pet Surrender Process

Our goal is to keep pets with their families whenever possible and to prevent animals from entering the shelter unless absolutely necessary. If you find yourself in a situation where you must surrender your pet, please carefully review the following requirements and steps.

Eligibility

Surrender Fee

There is a $100 fee per animal to surrender, regardless of the animal’s age or species. This fee helps cover the cost of care while the pet is with us.

Vaccination Requirement

Note: You will not be added to our waitlist until the pet is listed on Home-Home.org and approved by our staff.

Why Home to Home?

Home to Home has a high success rate of helping families rehome their pets directly, without ever having to enter a shelter. This reduces stress on the animal and helps open space in our facility for emergencies.

What Happens After 30 Days?
