Frequently Asked Questions

Do you handle wildlife calls?

No. We do not handle any calls involving wildlife. These should be directed to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) or a licensed private wildlife removal agency.

Who should I contact if I need animal services but live inside city limits?

If you live inside city limits, animal control calls for service (such as stray pickup, bite cases, or nuisance complaints) are handled by your city’s animal control or police department. However, our shelter does accept animals from both city and county residents, based on space and availability.

What types of services does Sumner County Animal Services provide?

We provide animal control services for residents living in unincorporated areas of Sumner County. This includes stray animal pickup, bite investigations, and cruelty/neglect complaints. Our shelter also accepts animals from both county and city residents, depending on space. Please note: owner surrenders are placed on a wait list, and we do not accept feral cats.

  • City Residents: Contact your city’s animal control or police department for service. You may also bring animals directly to our shelter (space permitting).
