We wrapped up an incredible three weeks of our Books & Burros event last week, and what a journey it has been! Throughout September, our team visited 31 schools across Sumner County, bringing stories to life for hundreds of students. The excitement on the kids’ faces was unforgettable—one student even came up to us and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh! This brings the book to life!” Moments like this remind us why we love what we do.
While Sumner County Animal Services primarily cares for domestic animals such as dogs, cats, and livestock, we never miss an opportunity to connect with our community in fun and meaningful ways. Books & Burros is one of those special events that combines reading, learning, and the joy of meeting animals up close. It’s amazing to see children not only enjoying a story but also forming a connection with the animals we care for every day.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our SRO division, the dedicated staff at SCAS, and the generous owner of Rosie, who allowed her to join us for the festivities. Your teamwork, enthusiasm, and dedication make these events shine and leave lasting impressions on the children we meet.
We’re so proud of the relationships we continue to build within our community, and we can’t wait to bring even more smiles, stories, and furry friends to schools next year. Here’s to Books & Burros 2026—we can already feel the excitement building!
